How: open a document in an earlier version of Word created

Microsoft Office programs provide always backward compatibility for documents created in earlier versions of the program.

This applies for example to Microsoft Word. Word document in an earlier version opens created, open the document in "Compatibility mode". This special mode enables users to the document as usual, but prohibits the use of the features of that were not when the document was created. This makes it possible to save the document in its original form for use by others, which is the earlier version of Word. Difficulty: easy

    Click "Start", "All programs", then click "Microsoft Word" on your computer.

    Click the Microsoft Office button to open the "File" menu.

    Choose from the list of available commands "Open".

  • 4

    Navigate to the location of the document you want to open, and double-click to open the file.

  • Word opens the file in "Compatibility mode" and you can change it as usual.
